 A welcoming party - open
« Thread Started on Jul 19, 2008, 10:52pm »

Feeling the sun beat down over himself, Sean opened his eyes. The only road into Helmont was always secured by a team of seven men.
Sean and his squad had been assigned todays boring job of allowing or denying peoples passage into the small mountain town retreat of Helmont.

Moving his back slightly to try and get comfortable again. The solider was lying on top of an old wooden shack. Another two men were inside playing cards while the other four sat in the humvee and manned the fifty caliber.

Checking his watch the time was almost one in the afternoon, just another hour and their shift was over. It had been a quiet day only one logging truck had gone through. Most of Helmont's houses still needed wood to heat up the house.
Sitting up Sean looked down at the men in the Humvee and then across to the concrete and steel bridge. The sound of another vehicle drew closer and then the wrenching of the fifty caliber echoed around in his ears.

Nobody was getting through unless the marines permitted it.

The engine revved as she sped up, speeding sharply around the corner along the concrete road, the bike accelerated along the only road into Helmont. Gage leaned forward in the seat, her long hair whipping out behind her in the wind, flapping wildly as she weaved along the road. She’d been biking for over an hour now, she had gone out to an abandoned village some way away, being paid to rescue some precious items for a family. They were inside leather bags, strapped to the sides of the bike, weighing her down at both sides, making it rather unresponsive unless she was firm with the steering.

She began to slow down, rather reluctantly as she made her way to the patrolled crossing, the bridge that connected Helmont town to the rest of the world. This was the only road in, and she would have to pass through a group of soldiers, she was well prepared for this, but normally, they didn’t cause her much in the way of problems. She’s helped out more than one when she was out on her raiding trips, she had gone past their homes, gotten mementos that they couldn’t get to, when they were working and couldn’t get out, she’d helped. For a price.

As she approached the camp, she saw the guns trained on her and slowed yet more, her bright eyes lowered to the road for now, hoping to be let straight through, if this was a good day, it wouldn’t take more than five minutes, oh, she hoped it was a good day.

Dangling his legs above the ground, Sean gave a stretch and reached for his rifle. Clutching onto it as if it was the most precious object to him, the solider slipped from the roof and landed on the hardened mud.
Walking towards the approaching vehicle he heard the two men inside jog up towards the Hummer and pulled back on the rifles levers. Now seven guns trained on the civilian and her vehicle, enough fire power to turn her into a bloody pulp.

"Show me your pass please." Sean asked as if he didn't care, his eyes observing the wildlife around him. Taking a large breath of air the solider turned his attention to Gage, his eyes traveled down her body and then back to the two birds flying above them.

"Also I need you to dismount the motorcycle and make your way to the Humvee, both hands in the air. You understand?" It had been a boring day but at least only another hour was left.

Gage had halted, and when she was asked to get out her pass, she switched the engine off and slowly, making sure that she moved as little as possible, in case one of them was too trigger happy, slipped her hand into her inner pocket and pulled out a travel pass. She had acquired it some time ago, meaning she was safe to enter Helmont, one of the few who had one it seemed these days.

She opened her pass, bringing it with her as she slipped lithely off the bike, her hips swinging gently as she walked forward, both hands raised casually, enough to show she couldn’t dart and reach for any weapons that she may, or may not be carrying. She would be stupid to travel without them these days though.

Walking over toward the Humvee, she casually looked around the place, the men looked bored, as if they hadn’t been doing anything all day, probably likely here, around about now. Casually, she shook her head, shifting her hair out of her eyes, since she had to leave her hands in sight. ”Quiet day?” She questioned, being as approachable as possible, she wanted to get through quickly this time.

Flicking through the pass as he followed the woman, Sean closed the small booklet.
"Ye nothing much happened. Ok as you know we are going to search you so before we do, do you have any weapons on you?"
The solider scratched the back of his neck his eyes connecting with one of the soldiers to his right. The M249 (SAW) was aiming right at the females chest, without thinking he could down the woman and the senior officers couldn't do anything to punish him.

"Also we would like your name aswell Ms and where you are staying inside Helmont just so we know where to contact you incase of an emergency." Sean had drummed this out over and over, it was protocol and it sounded as if it had been drilled into him.

Gage frowned, she didn’t like being searched, wandering hands made her angry, but she relented none the less. ”I’ve been a good way out of town. I’ll be honest, I’m well armed.” She didn’t want to move to reveal this fact in case she was shot down; it was making her a little nervous, all of these guns focussed on her.

“I’ve got a knives on both lower legs, a pistol strapped to my thigh...” She hesitated, mentally running through the list of weapons she had hidden about her person. ”A small throwing knife on my left lower arm. A magnum 360 on my left hip, a desert eagle on my right...” She paused once more, thinking this through, she didn’t want to make a mistake, it could end rather badly. ”I think that’s all I’m carrying on me, don’t count on it though...” She smiled casually, it was strange, she looked rather beautiful, even effeminate, no one ever suspected she would pack so much.

”My bike’s got a few guns on it too though, I don’t know if that matters or not. I guess I might as well tell you that. There’s a rifle and a shotgun on there somewhere... as well as a few other hand guns.” She had a rather large collection, since it seemed that one or two never did the trick. She smiled innocently at the man once more, as if butter wouldn’t melt.

"Oh ok." He answered unimpressed it was a Saturday and the heat made him thirsty.
"Ok Joe here will search you and the guns will be collected and deposited in the military office where you can collect them tomorrow we just going to label them nothing else, the knives though you can have later on today."

"I'm sorry I didn't quite catch where you are staying can you repeat the address." Sean knew she didn't tell him but he was being polite.
"Also I need your name Ms."

Scribbling on the notepad, Sean took one more look at the pass and place it infront of Gage.
"It checks out." He muttered and then started to walk towards the vehicle.
Looking at the motorcycle it looked like a wreck but at least it worked.
Slowly the soldier started to search the bike for the shotgun and the rifle while Joe started to search Gage.

Gage glared rather harshly at the offhand attitude of the soldier wandering around as was even more annoyed as she began to feet hands working her way up her legs, lifting her trouser leg up to reveal the two long hunting knives, in their sheathes, buckled onto her. They were removed as ‘Joe’ worked his way up, removing her weapons . He look his time about it, his hands lingering on her slender waist, undoing the belt that the guns were fixed to. She held her tongue, but only just.

”The name is Gage Langstrom, and at the moment, I’m in the 19th floor of the Brustley building in town. Flat 109.” She answered rather roughly, hesitantly giving out her address to anyone; she didn’t like to be found, if she could help it. ”Can I move now?” She asked as the man drew away with her weapons, she felt rather naked without them, she didn’t remove them normally, not all of them, but this made her nervous, put her in an even worse mood. It would be her luck that something would come along that would make her wish she’d hidden a gun somewhere...

Picking up her pass, she slipped it into the inner pocket of her leather coat, tight fitting it was beginning to feel warm, the breeze on her bike had cooled her down, but she wanted to take it off now, standing around in the heat of the sun. Slowly, she slid it off and held it, revealing an older tank top, there was a little blood on the bottom left corner. She had been pleased of her weapons this time, she didn’t always have trouble, but this place had been near a graveyard, plenty of food for the infected, they weren’t picky.

Inspecting the bike, Sean turned to face Gage.
"Ye you can move now." Walking back towards the woman, Sean made a hand gesture and the soldiers complied by lowering their weapons.

"Ms Langstrom you are free to enter Helmont, if you have any problems please contact any military personnel and we help you to the best of our ability until then you are free to roam around Helmont for a week after that you will have to report to the barracks."

After finishing ticking the boxes and explaining the laws in Helmont, Sean scribbled down his signature and then places the sheet of paper and the clipboard on the bonnet of the Humvee.

"As soon as you sign this you are clear to enter Helmont." The marine yawned as he started putting name tags on the weapons and placing them in plastic sealed bags.

”Right.” She answered simply, once more adopting her casual stance, exuding arrogance, taking the document from the bonnet, glancing over them before with a flourish of the pen, leaving an exuberant signature scrawled over the line, rather wild and flowing, it stated simply ‘Gage’ with a cross through the first G, something she had always done, from being in school. Tossing it casually onto the Humvee bonnet, she strode over to her bike, glaring at the soldier that had just spoached through her bags.

”Where do I get my guns back from then?” She asked offhandly, straddling her bike, her dark denim miniskirt riding up, revealing yet more of the ripped fishnet tights and the empty gun holsters strapped to her. She rested her heavy black boot on the cover of the bike, looking directly at the soldier with whom she had been dealing. ”Oh, can I have your name, in case anything should go wrong?”

She fronwed, tipping her head back, sending her hair rippling down her back, out of her eyes. She probably out to tie it back from when she was heading back into Helmont, but she couldn’t find her hair tie, her bandanna was tied to her left leg, under her skirt, staunching the bleeding from a rather interesting wound that she had gotten when something launched at her and she skidded off her bike. It was barely showing, the white bandanna was starting to go red though, but it was under her tights to try and disguise the injury from the camp, it could make things difficult.

"All weapons are stored in the armory and my name is Sean Paxton." Hearing the sound of another vehicle approach, Sean glanced behind him to see another marine unit deploy.
At last his shift was over and he could retire to his quarters until he was promised leave for the evening.

"Come on guys we rolling out." Copping up the signed paper, Sean turned back to face Gage.
"If you want to know more about this place I be in the only bar in town, see me at seven."

Banging on the top of the hummer, Sean stepped inside and slowly the military vehicle escorted Gage into the small town of Helmont.
