Gage pulled herself from her bike, looking around her into the darkening streets, locking down her bike, smoothly slipping the key down her ample cleavage before lifting her skirt on her left thigh, looking down at the bleeding wound, covered in a bandage. She had stitched it herself and it was aching, throbbing so badly now. The vodka she had poured on it hadn’t helped. Frowning, she gritted her teeth and pulled the bandage tighter, muffling a groan before pulling her tights back up, straightening her skirt and walking over to the bar door.
She pressed her hand against the sticky handle and pushed her way in. Apart from a few roudy people, the bar was nearly empty, most had taken to dark corners to discuss private matters. Glancing at her watch, it was quarter to seven, she walked over to the bar, sitting down on a stool and waving to the barman. He knew her well, she was always in here and she didn’t even need to ask for her drink. He came wandering over with a vodka, straight, placing it down in front of her and waiting without asking for pay. He found it easier to settle up with her at the end of the night when she was drunk, and had probably acquired more money from looting someone. Mentally, he added it to her tab.
Gage knocked back the first one and without even asking, the barman filled it up once more. She nodded her thanks and knocked back yet another. This happened four times before she actually spoke. ”Thanks Fred.” She didn’t know if that was his real name, but he had always smiled when she called him that, and she always had. Just the way it was. Resting one arm on the bar, she propped herself up, looking rather vicious, if a little tired. She was pale and though she didn’t want to admit it, it was from blood loss.

Walking down the high street, Sean heard some soldiers talk about general things. The marine felt naked with only wearing his city camouflage combat trousers and a matching t-shirt. Approaching the bar, Sean heard the roar of a hummer behind him, driving up the main high street. Pushing open the bars door, the marine walked towards the bar. Some of the peoples eyes traced Sean until he ordered a bottle of beer and sat down on his own. Letting his dog tags droop over his t-shirt, Sean took his first swig of alcohol in almost three months.
Commander Peterson decided it was time he had a break and so tonight and tomorrow was leave unless something happened during the night that had high security risks. Keep himself to himself, Sean sat in a quiet corner, his eyes focusing on the bottle infront of him. Drumming his fingers on the bottle and the oak table, the marine felt out of place, out of sync.
It wasn't so obvious why the people of Helmont was against the military here, they were peace keepers, making sure nothing happened to anyone in the town but even now the population of Helmont seemed to be against what was basically keeping the town alive.

Gage was staring through her clear drink, looking at the wooden surface of the bar through the bottom of the glass, distorting the grain. It wasn’t until she finished that drink and nodded to Fred for her next, his raised his eyebrows and rolled his eyes in the direction of the newcomer. Gage looked up and found herself looking at the soldier from earlier that day, the main reason she was in the bar.
She hesitated before knocking back another drink, and standing up. God, the booze hit her then, but she held her composure and walked over toward him. Standing at the side of the solider, she placed her hand on her hip, putting her weight on her right leg to prevent the pain in the left, which was already being cured by copious amounts of alcohol. Though one more would have made it feel better. ”Hey. So, what’s going on around here then?” Her bright eyes watched him carefully, suspicion all over her face.
She throbbing in her leg told her her bandage was too tight, but she couldn’t get it out to loosen it here, instead, she sat down on a stool, pulling down her miniskirt to cover the wound, noticing the slight bloodstain on the corner. Frowning, she looked back up at the soldier, waiting for a reply.

Looking up his complexion told her alone that he was innocent of whatever she might accuse him of. "Take a seat." He gestured taking a sip of the cold beer. touching the steel dog tags around his neck, it give him some confidence. He was still a soldier and they ruled the streets of Helmont at the moment.
"What do you mean Ms Langstrom?" Sean didn't really know what she wanted to hear from him and since the question was very generalized he didn't want to tell her unwanted information which could backfire on Sean if the military found out he leaked information civilians weren't meant to know.
"Do you mean the military take over or do you mean the increased in security?" Choosing his words carefully Sean wondered if Gage wanted to know about the two subjects or if she was curious about something else, something he may know nothing about.
"Oh by the way we did tests on the weapons you had, the rifle needs a good cleaning."

She pulled herself further onto the seat, placing her empty glass on the bar and nodding to fred for him to fill it, he did so with pleasure and went to serve other customers. ”It’s Gage. And Miss.” She said sharply, tapping her foot gently on the stool leg. ”Well, that for one thing... and has anyone else around here noticed the increasing number of the infected, certainly in the surrounding area. I’m sure your boys do a fine job of keeping them out of the city.” Hey eyebrow raised slightly, the piercing glimmering in the half light of the bar.
She took a drink, not knocking it back, but finally pacing herself. She had reached that stage where she could feel the buzz, but her brain was working. This was her optimum range, she could shoot better at this stage, she was faster on her feet, she even thought more rapidly. Her slight inhibitions wearing away, making her yet more confident. ”And it’s amazing how filthy it can get in such a short space of time... I’ll deal with it when I get home.” She thought about her flat, and although they were in the safe zone, supposedly, her paranoia had led her to modify it beyond the normal reach of houses.
All of the windows had metal shields which could be dragged out and bolted down, her door was reinforced with steel, weapons were hidden all over her house, and there was only one way in, and two ways out, excluding the windows. Alarms were on the doors and windows although she doubted she would need them if there was an attack. She was overprepared, but after last time, she wasn’t the only one.

Sean glanced up to one of the men at the bar glaring at him. The older and seemingly unfit men in Helmont hated the soldiers for doing what they were ordered to do. It was a masculine thing. The soldiers were beefed up, they could tackle any problem that occurred in the small town of Helmont with ease, nobody in the town could challenge their superiority. The public sector was being handed over to the military to over watch.
"I'm Sorry Miss Langstrom." Sean finally said and took another swig of his beer. "Intelligence suggests that the small amount of surviving infected are only seen around the surrounding complex because they are looking for food but the sightings are rare. There is no danger to anyone within Helmont, we are well equipped and experienced to tackle any kind of intrusion."
"By the way, do you know incase there is an emergency or a routine patrol where your nearest extraction point is?" Sean couldn't get the soldier out of him. It had been too long since he had a break from work. A few hours here and there didn't help but the military were stretched across the United States, they needed all their troops to be ready and on duty at all times.
"Also your knife collection is ready for pickup tomorrow morning if you want to drop by." Taking another swig of his beer, Sean realized he had finished the bottle.

She tapped her long nails on the bar, no longer looking at the solider, she had followed his gaze to the others seated around the room, she could feel the intense hatred toward him, she could understand it, and yet, this single man wasn't responsible, it was the powers as a whole.
"Well whatever intelligence suggests, there are more... and I don't like it. They don't get in the complex, fair enough, good work for you guys. But outside, it's different. You have no clue how many I saw last time I was out..." She realised she had opened her mouth too much and to shut herself up, she took a drink of her vodka, gesturing rather rudely to one of the men that was staring, mostly at the solider.
Placing her empty glass back on the bar, she ran her slender finger about the rim, her tongue manipulating the lip piercing on the left hand side, she bit her lip gently, as if deep in thought. "I don't really deal with the whole extraction point thing. I think it's a couple of streets away from mine. if it happens, and i need to go, I'll follow the crowd."
She stopped biting her lip, feling pleased she'd be able to go and get her knives. "Good, I'll pick them up in the morning...err." She glanced at the vodka glass and at the rest o the bottle hanging on the wall. "...afternoon."[/b] She never left this bar sober, never. She only came in when she planned to get really drunk.

Sean stared at Gage his eyes emotionless, it was as if he was a robot. Six years of fighting and this is the thanks he had, the military had saved so many lives but it was never enough. "Look the solution is that the infected will die out through starvation. Aslong as we keep the civilians of the United States safe then the infected will die out much quicker."
The soldier listed his head up and gave a smile to the barman who just slammed down another bottle of beer. "Nice place this, the locals really do admire us." His sarcastic drone attracted the attention of a few of the bars inhabitants but none of them could really do anything without causing a serious offense which the military would dictate.
"Well I'm at the barracks at around one if you come then I can sign the paper work and you can have the knifes back in under ten minutes." Sean took two long gulps of the liquid and then noticed twenty minutes had passed already. "By the Miss, it's Wednesday the bar closes at eleven the streets are cleared by half past. Bravo company are on exercise tonight."
Sean knew one of the reasons why people hated the military was because they basically turned the entire town into a military training ground.
"Where are you originally from then?" The soldier asked curiously.

"Shame there's so many corpses for them to eat. They were digging graves out where I was." She closed her eyes thinking of the festering wounds and rotting flesh, god the stink had been awful. Smiling at Fred as he slammed down the solider's bottle, he grinned back at her, getting the vodka bottle and pouring her a new one.
"My my, you sure are popular, Mr." She grinned sarcastically, looking back at the people sitting back that were looking vehnemously at the soldier. "What's your name by the way? Oh, and don't call me Miss Langstrom or regardless of whether you are in the military or not, I'llhave to make your life hell." She grinned at him, but you couldn't tell whether she was being serious or not.
"Eleven, fucking hell. That sucks." She wafted at her now emptied glass for another. "Better get cracking then. In fact, Fred, would you sell me a bottle to take home? The barman grinned, topped up her drink yet again and wandered off without giving her an answer.
"Can't you tell, I guess my accent has gone by now, well after a few drinks it does... I dunno. I'm British. Got imported to the school up here. well before the damned infection." Of course, she had a british accent, but as soon as she started to drink, it faded and became unintelligable from American.

Sean felt his left hand clutch onto his dog tags, it was a way for him to remember he was important in this new world, he had power. "The military needs Helmont for training exercises we are sorry for the inconvenience this causes." Downing the rest of the bottle Sean glared at one of the men, although the soldier was unarmed he knew he was more than a match for anyone in here, although he was intrigued with Gage the way she seemed to handle herself maybe she was a force to be reckoned with.
"The name is Sean and Ok Miss." It was hard to break the habit for the soldier, it had been too long since he called people by their first name alone. Waiting for the barman to come back Sean hesitated about getting another drink, he didn't like the idea of getting drunk in this place, especially with the current people in the bar.
"Britain huh? How come you back in the States?" Sean decided small talk would probably make some of the inhabitants overlook the fact that he's military.

"Whatever soldier boy. God, you're not on the job right now." She rolled her eyes yawning quietly, hand rising in front of her mouth, some of the good manners she hadn't been able to get rid of. She crossed her legs without thinking, pain shot up her thigh. She let out a moan of pain, wincing and picking up her glass, only to find she'd emptied it a moment before. "Damn it. And I told you not to call me Miss!" She snapped at Sean once more.
"For fuck's sake, my name's Gage, it's one syllable, even you should get it right soldier boy." She muttered this more than anything else, biting her lip to distracted her from the pain. She hoped she hadn't ripped one of the stitches.
"I got shipped off here because my 'rents thought it might kick me into shape. I've always been a bit of a rebel let's say. Hardcore drugs, booze and shit like that. They sent me to the school up in Helmont to get rid of me. Well, virus outbreak, got stuck there didn't I. I've been pretty much stuck in the area since then. I got out for a while, but I was fucked up. I saw a lot of people die, yeah. Well, lost it in some random town, got shipped back up here." She sighed, that was the story of her life, no body wanted her so the easiest thing to do was get rid of her.
